Seat for Commode
Case ref 05/27 (14)
Following a spinal injury Client was totally paralysed from the neck down such that it was necessary for him to stimulate himself in order to defecate. The  seat on his shower/commode chair provide for this facility but was not of an ideal shape. The Panel therefore undertook to design and make a replacement. A click on the image left indicates the difference, (the upholstered seat in white, gives details of the replacement). The seat base was constructed from exterior grade 22mm plywood coated with epoxy resin to render it impervious to moisture.
Rollator Height Adjustment
Case ref 09/32 (8)
Client with multiple sclerosis was dependent upon his walking aid, but at
6' 7" tall the commercial aid  at its maximum height was found to be uncomfortable to use. Its maximum height was therefore required to be raised by 2". An
extension piece was therefore machined from 7/8" dia aluminum bar and bolted between the base frame and handle bar section. The result being that Client could now walk further distances, and, according to Client, "now with straight legs and without discomfort".
As the modification required specialist machining the work was the result of two REMAP Tyne Panel engineers working together.

Bra Fastening Aid for One Armed Client
Prototype Only (17)
Whilst there was no specific referral at the time, Tyne Panel were requested by the Health Authority to investigate the provision of an aid to assist a one armed lady to fasten her brassiere. The aid shown  relies upon one end of the device being fastened onto a suitable location (a door handle for example) and Client rotating her body to achieve the fastening.

Two Different Buggies
Case ref 09/08 (16)
Client had three children aged 7, 4 and a 6 month old baby, with the older child being affected with cerebral palsey. For outings it was necessay to put the 7 year old and baby in separate buggies; the two being difficult to control. A means of connecting the two buggies temporalriy together, as one buggy, was therefore required.
An arrangement of clamping bars was the solution taking into consideration the different construction of the two buggies and ease of use.

SitSki Elevation Cushion
Case ref 09/19 (11)
Client was a T4 paraplegic with no feeling or movement below his chest. His hobby was snow skiing using a Tessiah DualSki and he required a device to enable him to to readily transfer between the SitSki and his wheel chair and vice versa. The attached photo shows the solution adopted by REMAP Tyne Panel comprising two 'Dunlopillow' inflatable cushions connected together giving a 7" degree of lift. The inflation points of the the cushions were modified to accept the  'Y' tubing sourced from a redundant sphygmomanometer.
Inflation of the cushions was achieved by means of a standard airbed foot pump. .
